Holding On and Letting Go
Change often involves releasing what was in order to embrace what God is doing now. Change is about moving forward with integrity and trust. Often we are not in control of change. We might initiate something or move forward but how everything unfolds is part of what makes change hard. We cannot control how others choose to embrace changes or evaluate what is changing but we do get to decide if we will face changes with integrity and trust in God. Whatever transitions we walk through we can take heart in knowing “The earth is the Lord’s, and everything in it.” Psalm 24:1
Philippians 3:12–14 (ESV)
Not that I have already obtained this or am already perfect, but I press on to make it my own, because Christ Jesus has made me his own. Brothers, I do not consider that I have made it my own. But one thing I do: forgetting what lies behind and straining forward to what lies ahead, I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.
Mark 2:18–22 (ESV)
Now John's disciples and the Pharisees were fasting. And people came and said to him, “Why do John's disciples and the disciples of the Pharisees fast, but your disciples do not fast?” And Jesus said to them, “Can the wedding guests fast while the bridegroom is with them? As long as they have the bridegroom with them, they cannot fast. The days will come when the bridegroom is taken away from them, and then they will fast in that day. No one sews a piece of unshrunk cloth on an old garment. If he does, the patch tears away from it, the new from the old, and a worse tear is made. And no one puts new wine into old wineskins. If he does, the wine will burst the skins—and the wine is destroyed, and so are the skins. But new wine is for fresh wineskins.”
